Symbolism
Arms
Red and gold, the horizontal stripe and the three stars are found on ancestral D’Elia arms from Italy. Red is also one of the national colours of Canada, where the family has settled. The horizontal stripe alludes to the journey taken by the family from Italy to Canada. The discs symbolize targets and the stars, excellence, thus alluding to Mr. D’Elia’s talent in trapshooting. Their numbers represent his three sons. The gold discs are also a symbol of trade and commerce, Mr. D’Elia being a businessman. The cross is a symbol of his Catholic faith and the symbol of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George, to which members of his family have belonged. The heart symbolizes his love for his family and also his work for different charities.
Crest
The wolf is for Mr. D’Elia a symbol of perseverance and hard work, his family having left Italy to start a new life in Canada. It also personifies protection, respect and strength. The shotgun refers to his achievements in trapshooting.
