Symbolism

Arms

Blue represents the sky and water, and green the earth and abundance of life. The yale, a fantastic creature and one of the Queen’s Heraldic Beasts, alludes to the grantee’s belief in constitutional monarchy. The blue discs scattered over its body, resembling blueberries, are a pun on the Berryman surname. The maple leaves reflect the grantee’s love for Ontario and Canada.

Crest

The dolphin is an intelligent and playful mammal. It is depicted leaping, a characteristic attitude evocative of joie de vivre and grace. The linden is the national tree of Slovakia, and thus refers to the family heritage of the grantee’s wife.

Motto

This phrase in Greek, meaning “Ever to excel”, is derived from Homer’s Iliad (Book VI).
