Symbolism

Arms

The central image refers to the Ojibwe-Cree name Mishamikoweesh, which means “beaver lodge”. The red and blue background of the shield is based on the arms of the Diocese of Keewatin, out of which Mishamikoweesh was created. The dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, and the two open books can refer either to the Old and New Testaments, or to Scripture and liturgy.
