Symbolism
Arms
The ship weather vane evokes the destinies of the different Girouard families who crossed the Atlantic and settled in Canada. A phonetic allusion to the surname, the weather vane (girouette in French) has been used in the arms of homonymous French families. The flowering branch evokes the Motto and embodies the family lines descending from the pioneers François Girouard, Antoine Girouard and Nicolas Réalh dit Drouard, who settled in Montreal and Port-Royal in the 17th and 18th centuries. The colours furthermore recall the places of origin of the three known ancestors: the blue and gold from the Royal Arms of France for François and Antoine, and the prominent gold of the flag of Wallonia for Nicolas.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “I will blossom wherever I am carried”.
