Symbolism

Arms

This design is derived from the Scottish grants to other Patersons which use three pelicans in their piety. Here, a chief holds three symbolic golf balls dropping into the cups. These represent the interest shared by at least three generations of Patersons in the game of golf, beginning with Mr. Paterson’s grandfather in Scotland.

Crest

The green thistles and white crosses symbolise the heritage of Scotland and Christianity. The stag represents the family tradition of hunting.

Motto

Meaning “Freedom, truth, humanity”.

Flag

Badge

The cross of tees allude to the cross on the shield of the Archangel Michael found in the arms of Dumfrees, Scotland, the home of Mr. Paterson’s paternal grandfather. The oak leaves and golf ball allude to the Royal Ashburn Golf Club which Mr. Paterson founded in the environs of the Oak Ridges moraine.
