Symbolism
Arms
The colour black represents Ms. Sajous’s personal heritage. The flames, quintessential symbols of power and energy, illustrate her passion for life and her loved ones. The contrast of the gold flames and the shield’s monochromatic background echoes the complementary forces of reason and passion that are the source of her greatest accomplishments.
Crest
The astrolabe is an ancient navigational instrument. It illustrates openness to the world and that spirit of adventure that prompts people to explore new places. It represents Ms. Sajous’s Haitian and French roots and her personal history, which brought her from France to Acadia and Quebec.
Supporters
The seahorses evoke the aquatic world and highlight the importance of the sea, and water in general, to Ms. Sajous. The ocean and the perpetual motion of the waves symbolize renewal, infinity and freedom. The shield rests on a rock in the shape of a maple leaf, acknowledging her attachment to Canada, the country that welcomed her.
Motto
Meaning “Between reason and passion”, the motto, like the shield, expresses the two extremes that govern her life.
