Symbolism
Arms
The wavy chief line refers to Dr. Rigby’s home in a city by the sea. The main colours of white and blue are the two colours of Dr. Rigby’s regiment, the Royal Regiment of Artillery. The gun represents his military service generally and as a gunner more specifically. The ankhs are symbols of his profession as a physician, with the three referring to himself and his two children.
Crest
The chaplet of red roses is a reference to Dr. Rigby’s Lancastrian ancestry. The goat’s head is a traditional emblem in Dr. Rigby’s family and is found, in other tinctures, in various grants on record to Rigbys in Lancashire.
