Symbolism
Arms
The gold field and green bars are based on the arms of the County Donegal. The rod alludes to the name “MacRodain”, a source of the surname McCrodan, meaning “rod” or “strong”. The latter idea is emphasized by the image of the red hand lifting the rod.
Crest
The pine tree is based on a drawing by Frederick Varley and represents Mr. McCrodan’s interest for the outdoors. His association with financial markets is symbolized by the white gemstones.
Motto
This Gaelic phrase means “Loyalty and strength for truth.”
Flag
The symbolism of this emblem is found in other element(s) of this record.
