Symbolism
Arms
The roses represent Mrs. Crook’s favourite flower. The open book and cross denote her strong Christian beliefs. The shepherd’s crook relates to her name as well as to her being a guide to history through her writings. The colours of blue and gold allude to her affection for the monarchy, these colours being the vice-regal colours of Canada.
Crest
The lion portrays courage and also is an allusion of support for the monarchy, this animal being a Supporter of the Royal Arms of Canada. The quill denotes her success as an author of children’s literature. The Loyalist military coronet shows her Loyalist ancestry.
Motto
The motto demonstrates Mrs. Crook’s firm belief in positive family values.
