Azure three chevronels tipped sapiné braced Or, in chief a steelhead trout naiant Argent;

Crest

Issuant from a coronet sapinagé Or a bald eagle wings elevated and addorsed proper;

Supporters

Dexter a cougar sinister a stag Or, each gorged of a coronet sapinagé Azure and standing on a grassy mount Vert set with white fawn lilies proper;

Motto

Flag

Azure on a Canadian pale Or an escutcheon of the Arms;

Badge

A white fawn lily proper environed by a branch of Douglas fir and a branch of western red cedar proper;


Symbolism

Arms

The blue of the shield represents the lake. The chevrons allude to the forests on both sides of the lake and the harvest of which is an important component in the economy of this region. The trout is a reference to the fishing both in the lake and in the Cowichan River, recreations for which the community is famous.

Crest

The coronet refers to the timber industry. The eagle is a bird found in many parts of the province and honours the town’s natural wildlife.

Supporters

The cougar and stag also honour the natural wildlife of the area. The flower, a white fawn lily in its pink variety, is an official floral symbol of the town.

Motto

This Latin phrase means “Abundance in the shadow of the mountains.”

The symbolism of this emblem is found in other element(s) of this record.

Badge

The flower and branches allude to the natural habitat of the area.
