Symbolism
Arms
A gold shield with five blue fusils is traditionally associated with Celtic Norse Pennington armigers in early rolls of arms. Gold and blue are also the school colours of Penrhos College, North Wales, the École hôtelière, Lausanne, and the colours of the Soroptimist International, all being bodies with which Mrs. Pennington Mayer has been associated. The raven in the canton is a design originally handcrafted from a silver dollar in 1964 by Haida artist Patrick McGuire for Mr. Gyula Mayer to present to Anne Pennington on their wedding day.
Crest
The traditional Pennington crest is a mountain cat. To this has been added a blue fusil, taken from the arms, while a cross of St. George in the right paw of the cat indicates Mrs. Pennington Mayer’s life memberships in loyal societies and her service to the Crown.
Motto
This Latin phrase meaning “The love of my country conquers” is a motto that has been used by other Pennington armigers.
