Symbolism
Arms
The arms evoke the ancient arms of Macfie with two divisions and a black galley. The maple leaf recognizes that Mr. MacPhie carries his Canadian pride while outside the country. One torch appears for his profession as an educator, and the other for the Olympic torch that he carried in 1988 during the torch relay. As well, they represent his two children.
Crest
The demi-lion follows the ancient Macfie crest, but is differenced here by the bagpipes. The bagpipes represent the musical interests of Mr. MacPhie and specifically that he played in the RCMP pipe band in Ottawa.
