Symbolism

Arms

The blue and gold refer to the Fédération’s Quebec origins. The three maple trees represent all genealogical societies. The leafy tree has always symbolized this discipline because of the common expression “to trace one’s family tree.” The tree at the base of the shield represents the first ancestor, and the two trees in chief represent the growing families. The two bars allude to the lines on the pages of a book, symbolizing both the Fédération’s cultural mandate through the distribution of articles and other publications, as well as its many awards presented to young people and to historical and genealogical publications. The three fleurs-de-lis represent first, the French aspect of the Fédération’s name; second, the majority of societies belonging to the FQSG that are from Quebec; and third, their international partners that also speak the French language.

Motto

RASSEMBLER ET PARTAGER meaning “Gathering and sharing”.
