Symbolism

Arms

The falcon standing on a yoke represents service that is done with noble intentions and patience. These figures allude to Mr. Nelson’s contribution in public service to making his community, province and country better. The gold chief evokes the midnight sun of the north of both Norway and Canada, and the diapering effect evokes the Northern Lights.

Crest

In the crest, the lozenge represents a diamond that has passed to Mr. Nelson through generations. The lion stands for strength and defence of values. As well, it also symbolizes both British and Norwegian heritages, a lion being found in arms of those countries. The double tail evokes Mr. Nelson’s two children.

Motto

Meaning “Integrity, family, service”.
