Symbolism
Arms
The shield is based on the arms granted to a Gransden in 1612. The bells appear in the arms of the city of Belfast and honour Dr. Gransden’s Irish heritage. The gold border is a mark of difference since these arms were granted in memory of Dr. Gransden’s father, Sir Robert Gransden.
Crest
The shamrocks continue a theme of the Arms. The spurs and sword appear on the badge of a Knight Bachelor and are a reference to Dr. Gransden’s father.
Motto
This means “Make haste slowly”.
