Symbolism

Arms

Ermine represents Brittany, the origin of Mr. Lavigne’s ancestors. The chevrony pattern refers to the fact that Mr. Lavigne was a builder and that his paternal ancestor, who first immigrated to New France, was a mason. Blue refers to New France and the French language.

Crest

The stag recalls a young stag that Mr. Lavigne, as a child, rescued and raised on the family farm before it escaped.

Motto

Meaning “I built upon a rock”, this Latin motto is based on the parable of the two builders (Matt. 7:24) and refers to Mr. Lavigne’s profession as a builder.

Badge

The birch sprig recalls the family property, Birch House, in Gracefield, Quebec, and the land surrounding it.
