Symbolism
Arms
The eagle is the emblem of St. John the Evangelist, and thus refers to Monsignor Kroetsch’s second name. The water at the base refers to the sacrament of baptism and to the name Murray, believed to be derived from a Celtic word for “settlement by the sea”. The wheat is a Eucharistic symbol, and the lyre represents music, thus marking Monsignor Kroetsch’s interests in liturgical theology and liturgical music.
Motto
This Latin motto means “Not I, [but it is] Christ who lives in me”, and it is taken from Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me”.
