Symbolism
Arms
The cross flory is taken from the ancestral arms of Pereira and indicates Mr. Pereira’s faith as a Christian as well as his involvement with his parish. The white discs are taken from the arms of Almeida and Castro, while the fleurs-de-lis are found in the arms of Rodrigues and Frazão, four ancient families of which Mr. Pereira is a descendant. The fleurs-de-lis also indicate Mr. Pereira’s commitment to the French language and to his adopted province, Quebec. For Mr. Pereira and his family, red is a symbol of their faith, the work they have accomplished and the successes of the family from generation to generation.
Crest
The sagitarrius is taken from the crest of Admiral José Baptista de Andrade (1819-1902) and pays tribute to him and his son, General Henrique Baptista de Andrade. Mr. Pereira is related to this family by his mother. The flory coronet recalls the symbolism of the arms.
