Symbolism

Arms

The mace symbolizes Mr. Lambert’s late father, Marcel Lambert, who was Speaker of the House of Commons from 1962 to 1963. The stag represents Mr. Lambert’s education at Hertford College, Oxford University, and the horse refers to his father’s love of horses. The family’s French heritage is shown by the fleurs-de-lis.

Crest

The circlet of trillium flowers and wild roses represents Ontario, where the majority of the family resides, and Alberta, the original home of the family. The lion’s armour alludes to Marcel Lambert’s service during World War II in the King’s Own Calgary Regiment, known as the “Calgary Tanks”. The Speaker’s baton furthers the symbolism of the mace in the arms, and the balance refers to the legal profession.
