Symbolism
Arms
The gold chevron represents a carpenter’s square, alluding to St. Joseph and his trade. The “carpenter’s square” and white lily on the blue field represent Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary. The coronet alludes to the Cathedral of Christ the King, in Hamilton, Ontario, in which Bishop Miehm was ordained to the orders of deacon, priest, and bishop. The hearts in the coronet symbolize the two great commands of Jesus, to love God and love thy neighbour. This connects with the motto in that faith is expressed through deeds of love.
Motto
This Latin phrase means "Faith through love" (from Galatians 5:6).
