Symbolism
Arms
The colour red, the scales and the sword traditionally symbolize justice, representing Mr. Morin’s profession as a prosecutor with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada. The St. Andrew’s cross alludes to the apostle whose name (André in French) Mr. Morin bears. The Maltese cross indicates that Mr. Morin is a Knight of Obedience of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and president of the Order’s Canadian association. The lily suggests Mr. Morin’s wife’s name, Liliane, while the Catherine wheel, named for St. Catherine of Alexandria, represents his daughter, Catherine.
Crest
The two lions and the book are taken from the arms of the University of Poitiers, in France, where Mr. Morin earned his doctor of laws degree. The maple leaves on the crown reiterate that Mr. Morin works for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, while the fleurs-de-lis represent his French roots.
Motto
Meaning "Peace comes from justice," this phrase conveys Mr. Morin’s commitment to justice.
