Symbolism

Arms

The field of the shield represents the ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, the creation of which Dr. Turriff advocated for many years. The osprey with the vallary coronet is inspired by the crest of the Ontario Provincial Police, of which Dr. Turriff was a long-time officer.

Crest

The griffin with torch symbolizes Dr. Turriff’s achievement in and advocacy for continuing education. It is based on the badge of the National Defence College, Kingston, which he attended.
