Symbolism

The white horse on red alludes to the arms of the County of Kent in Ontario, adopted in 1901 and based on the arms of the County of Kent in England. The gold and red colours are taken from the arms of Chatham in Kent, England. The maple leaf indicates that Chatham-Kent is a Canadian municipality. The blue in the annulus is a colour often used to symbolize policing. The trillium flower is the floral emblem of Ontario. The Royal Crown is a mark of honour used by police forces in Canada to indicate the role of the police in upholding the law in the name of the Crown.
