Symbolism

Arms

The four yellow sections of the shield, which allude to the badge of colonels of the Canadian Armed Forces, mark Mr. Vézina’s service with the 55 Field Ambulance. Their wavy form reflects the sea and Mr. Vézina’s passion for travel. As a discreet and perceptive creature, the falcon embodies characteristics of Mr. Vézina. The two oak branches refer to Mr. Vézina’s role as the Honorary Aide-de-Camp to the Honourable Pierre Duchesne, Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, whose coat of arms includes an oak tree. Their number refers to Mr. Vézina’s two daughters and the importance he places on family. These branches also symbolize young shoots, representing his volunteer work with young people over many years.

Crest

The falcon is taken from the arms. The black drops represent Mr. Vézina’s oil work in Africa, which earned him the appointment of Honorary Consul of the Republic of Benin in Québec. The maple leaves and the blue flag flowers represent his French-Canadian roots.

Motto

This phrase means “Discipline, loyalty, discretion”.
