Symbolism

Arms

The star alludes to the seven gifts identified in Romans 12:6-8, several of which Mrs. Nye exemplifies in being a facilitator, administrator and care-giver. The lower edge of the chief illustrates places at a table and thus symbolizes the service of Mrs. Nye on boards of directors of several organizations. The shell represents a pilgrimage made by Dr. and Mrs. Nye to the Holy Land. The books represent their two sons, and also allude to Mrs. Nye’s experiences in teaching in schools and church.

Crest

The Luther Rose alludes to the Lutheran heritage of the family of Mrs. Nye’s mother. The hand grasping upwards is inspired by the crest of the Chief of Clan Ross, Mrs. Nye’s maiden surname being Ross. The two trillium flowers represent her sons, and Ontario, their birthplace.

Motto

This motto answers the motto Spem successus alit (“Success nourishes hope”) of the chief of Clan Ross.
