Symbolism
Arms
The red, white and green colours are those of Hungary, Father Domotor’s birthplace. Red and white, which also appear as the mantling, are the colours of Canada, and thus indicate his Canadian citizenship. The patriarchal cross, found in the arms of Hungary, here represents Hungarian Christianity. This idea is further reinforced by the three green crosses, inspired by the insignia of the Order of St. István (Stephen), the first King of Hungary and the ruler who introduced the Christian faith to that land. The predominance of Christian symbolism in the arms emphasizes Father Domotor’s calling as a priest in the Roman Catholic Church.
Crest
The anchors mark Father Domotor’s position as Senior Fleet Chaplain of the Canadian Fleet Pacific. The eagle is the traditional symbol of St. John the Evangelist for whom he has a special regard. The patriarchal cross repeats the symbol found in the arms.
Motto
Meaning “Love bears all things”, this Latin phrase is based on the scriptural passage I Corinthians 13:7.
