Symbolism
Arms
The arms with the double-headed eagle are those of William Pytt, alias Bennett, of Pythouse, England, a 16th-century patrilineal ancestor of Leslie Brian Excell and his late father Leslie Bennett Excell. The arms with the chevron are those of William Bennett’s wife, the heiress Mary Ashlock. The Pacific dogwood flower represents British Columbia, the Excells’ place of residence. Along with the border, it serves as a mark of difference for the Bennett descendants of Canada.
Crest
The red-billed chough (or “Cornish” chough) standing on a whelk shell, which is the crest of the Bennetts of Pythouse, carries a Pacific dogwood flower representing Mr. Excell’s place of residence.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “God cares for me”.
