Symbolism

Arms

White and yellow are the colours of the flag of Nunavut, Mr. Cayen’s home. As a compass direction, the blue pointer alludes to the North; as a single arm of a Maltese cross, it alludes to Mr. Cayen’s volunteer activity with the Order of St. John. The cross fleury is a dual reminder of Mr. Cayen’s French heritage and his abiding Christian faith.

Crest

The walrus is a majestic creature which here represents the natural beauty and fortitude of the far north.
