Symbolism

Arms

The figure represents Ganesh, the elephant-deity, as a symbol of Dr. Gupta’s faith. Red and gold are the colours of the Hindu religion for auspicious occasions and for knowledge and learning. The lotus flower and petals are symbols of the inner self unfolding from darkness to light. The Om symbol is commonly used to represent Hinduism and its philosophy and theology. The snake-entwined staves symbolize Dr. Gupta’s profession of medicine.

Crest

The wheat represents prosperity, and the purse generosity, symbolizing the philanthropy of the Gupta family. The gold coin alludes to the coins used by the Gupta Dynasty of ancient India, and thus to the philanthropy of Dr. Gupta and to the family’s heritage.

Motto

This Latin phrase means “Let Gupta flourish”.

Motto

The latter part is a Sanskrit phrase meaning “Truth alone triumphs”.

Badge

The lotus flower appears here as a purse seen from above, with the inside bottom containing the word Om.
