Arms
The battlement alludes to the ancestral origin of Mr. Boyle’s family who came from Cork, Ireland, which bears a red tower in its arms. Along with the keys, it alludes to his service in the Canadian Armed Forces, and, because of his interest in unlocking military history, represents his service as the curator of the Calgary Highlanders Regimental Museum and as a guide for battlefield tours. The stag alludes to the stag in the crest of the chief of the Davidson clan, of which the Deans, his mother’s family, is a sept.
Crest
The lion charged with the pheon symbolizes Mr. Boyle’s British ancestry through his mother Anna Stella Deans, a pheon often appearing in Davidson arms. The sword also symbolizes Mr. Boyle’s military service. The ancient crown alludes to his support for the monarchy.
Motto
This Gaelic motto, meaning “Friends are good to have on the day of battle”, captures the essence of friendships formed during military service.
