Symbolism
Arms
The vertical stripes recall the ancient arms of Provence, France, from where Dr. Clément’s ancestors originated. The discs divided into pie sections symbolize the multiple personalities of people with schizophrenia, a mental illness for which Dr. Clément devoted a part of his career, especially in terms of rehabilitation and social re-inclusion.
Crest
The horse is an animal that Dr. Clément identifies with and appreciates. It is represented as a foal to recall the many years Dr. Clément spent as an obstetrician. The rod of Aesculapius is a well-known symbol of medicine. The black discs symbolize hockey pucks and the fact that Dr. Clément was the team physician of the Montreal Canadiens. The canes indicate his many years of service as a geriatric physician.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “In the service of the family and medicine”.
