Symbolism

Arms

The Maritime pine tree, common in the south-west of France, recalls Mr. Janson’s homeland. The chapes, metal tips used to decorate scabbards, allude to his service as a reserve officer, and also pay homage to his ancestors who served France in wartime, most notably his father, his uncle and his grandfather. The colours, tree and chapes are also inspired by the design on a signet ring which has been handed down in the family for several generations.

Crest

The turtledove, a symbol of peace, is a migratory bird found in many parts of the world, including the Medoc in France, Canada, and California, where Mr. Janson and his family have lived. The chape repeats the symbolism of the arms.

Motto

This Latin phrase, meaning “Faithful to my friends and to my enemies”, refers to a resolution that Mr. Janson made as a youth and which he has always honoured.
