Symbolism

The book represents the teaching and preaching ministry of the Basilian Fathers, of which Bishop Kasun is a member. The blue colour – which is also associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary – and the wings symbolize St. Michael the Archangel, the patron of the Archdiocese of Toronto where Bishop Kasun serves as auxiliary bishop, as well as of the parish in Cudworth, Saskatchewan where he grew up. Saskatchewan is also represented by the green and gold colours. The chevron alludes to the mountains and foothills of Alberta, where he served as a priest. The loaf of bread and fish refer to the miracles of Christ feeding the multitudes, and by extension an allusion to service to the poor.
Motto
This phrase is taken from Luke 4:18 and refers to Bishop Kasun’s ministry among the poor.
