Symbolism

Arms

Green is a colour symbolic of intelligence organizations, appropriate for Mr. Allbon as a police officer involved with counter-terrorism investigations. The griffin, a creature which is part eagle and part lion, symbolizes a person who is eagle-eyed and valorous in protecting Canadians and the security of Canada. The targe, a round shield used by Scottish warriors, symbolizes his Scottish heritage. The blue of the targe is a colour associated with policing services. The sword evokes Mr. Allbon’s readiness to serve, with force if necessary.

Crest

The lion with a thistle collar evoke Mr. Allbion’s heritage from both Scotland and England, lions being found in the arms of each and the thistle being emblematic of Scotland. Amber is an element that signifies protection from malevolence, a worthy role for a municipal police officer. The book symbolizes the teaching profession of his parents. The lilies symbolize his maternal grandfather’s birthplace of Dundee, Scotland, in whose arms lilies appear.

Motto

This Latin phrase means “Honour through service”.
