Symbolism
Arms
The green shield represents the rich lands of Delta. The triangle forms a canting reference to the city’s name, based on the Greek letter delta. The disc symbolizes the sun whose white light incorporates all other colours of the rainbow, thus representing the diversity of the residents.
Crest
The mural coronet symbolizes a municipality, and appears in Canada’s national colours. The ship’s wheel represents water-based commerce and industry.
Supporters
The horses symbolize the city’s strength and power, and wear collars showing symbols of fishing and grain-growing industries. The compartment on which they stand is a visual metaphor for Delta’s geographical situation: the green fields are bordered by symbols for the Fraser River and Boundary Bay.
