Symbolism

Arms

The oak leaf and crenellations refer to the name Egesborg, which means “oak castle” in Danish. Blue and gold, the colours of the state arms of Denmark and of the French monarchy, recall Mr. Egesborg’s family roots, while the northern red oak leaf is indicative of the rooting of his family in Canada.

Crest

The lion and the heart are inspired by the Arms of Denmark, the country of origin of Mr. Egesborg’s grandfather. The spray of blue flag, Quebec’s floral emblem, represents the three French-Canadian families (Fleurant, Dubuc and Allard) which have married into the Egesborg line over the generations. The flowers in the lion’s paw also symbolize the florist profession of Mr. Egesborg’s parents.

Motto

Meaning “Act with integrity.”

Flag

The four leaves represent Mr. Egesborg’s wife and children. The other elements repeat the symbolism of the arms.

Badge

The compass rose alludes to Mr. Egesborg’s profession as a land surveyor. It is the signature he uses for his carpentry work. The spoke pointing east, which bears the “Algiz” character found on certain rune stones, is a further reminder of his family’s Scandinavian origins.
