Symbolism

Flag

The red band symbolizes the Red River, where the first Francophones in Manitoba settled. The yellow band represents the wheat that grows on these fertile lands, as well as the important role that agriculture has played in building Franco-Manitoban communities. The large white band evokes the wide plains dominating the Manitoban landscape. The plant, in the form of a stylized “F,” conveys a thriving and firmly rooted French-speaking community. This symbolism is based on a variety of publicly-available sources.
