Arms
The design of the arms alludes, in part, to an unofficial coat of arms created in America and in use for many years. The coronets represent descent from a Loyalist settler who had served in the American Revolution. The sheaf of barley is an agrarian symbol of the many generations of Silverthorns who were landowners.
Crest
The sheaf of barley continues a theme of the Arms. The thorn is a canting reference to the name. The cougar was chosen as a suitable Canadian animal representing strength and determination.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “Make do with what you have.”
