Symbolism

Arms

The design alludes to a tree trunk and leaves, thus providing a canting reference to the name Grünewald, German for “green forest.”

Crest

The enfield, as a composite creature, alludes to Ms. Grünewald’s interest and studies in genetics. The fox, eagle and wolf are wildlife from the Niagara Escarpment, where she grew up. The double-helix, representing DNA, alludes to her interest and degree in bioethics. The climbing roses refer to the Zéphirine Drouhin thornless rose, her favourite flower.

Motto

This phrase expresses Ms. Grünewald’s and her family’s philosophy of life.
