Symbolism
Arms
The crescent moons are a pun on the name Mooney. The lion heads refer to the blue lion in the arms of Dr. Mooney’s college at Cambridge University, Emmanuel. The ermine background appears in the arms of Cambridge University, from which he received his doctorate.
Crest
The caribou symbolizes Dr. Mooney’s birthplace of Newfoundland. The tower represents a secure dwelling and thus alludes to Dr. Mooney’s work in the field of title insurance, which protects owners against losses related to property title.
Motto
This Latin phrase, meaning “Leaders, take care,” is an admonition for those in positions of responsibility.
