The palisade makes a pun on the name Penfold, an Old English word meaning “walled enclosure.” The palisade and pine tree can be found in the crests of several Penfold families.
Motto
This Latin phrase meaning “One fold and one shepherd,” taken from the Gospel of St. John (10:16), makes an additional canting reference on the name Penfold.
