Symbolism
Arms
The otters issuing from the wavy stripe are inspired by the arms of other Meldrum families in Scotland. For Mr. Meldrum, they also represent the many swimmers whom he has coached in several clubs. The blue and gold colours allude to Ukraine, the ancestral country of Mr. Meldrum’s mother. The wheat symbolizes the farming occupation of his mother’s ancestors.
Crest
The otter repeats the symbolism of the arms. The white lilies allude to those in the arms of the City of Dundee, Scotland, where several generations of Mr. Meldrum’s ancestors lived before coming to Canada.
Motto
These attributes are particularly valued by Mr. Meldrum as a military officer.
Flag
The symbolism of this emblem is found in other element(s) of this record.
