Symbolism
Arms
The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The wavy blue chevron alludes to water and, by extension, to hydroelectricity. The cogwheels represent the turbines and generators in a power plant, which transform the flow of a river into energy. The sprig of maple leaves is taken from the provincial arms of Ontario.
Crest
The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The electric generator represents the commission’s power plants, and the sun the energy that they produce.
Supporters
The moose and the deer are the supporters of the arms of the Province of Ontario.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “The gifts of nature are for the people.” It emphasizes that the commission was established as a public utility to harness energy from natural sources.
