The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The chevron alludes to the service chevron on a Canadian Army uniform from the First World War and its red colour marks the year 1914, indicating that Mr. Beddoe was a member of the first contingent of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The wavy blue chief likely alludes to his service in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War, as well as to his work in designing numerous Royal Canadian Navy ship badges. The lion possibly refers to his English ancestry. The shield with the maple leaf indicates Mr. Beddoe’s work as a heraldic designer, artist and advocate.

This Latin phrase, meaning “I remember,” refers to Mr. Beddoe’s work over many decades as the chief artist of the Books of Remembrance, housed in the Memorial Chamber at Parliament in Ottawa.
