Symbolism

Arms

Red and white are the colours of Canada. The lion’s face alludes to strength, specifically the resolve of Mr. Minc and his family to escape from Poland during World War II. The scales of justice represent Mr. Minc’s role as a municipal judge. The Star of David alludes to his Jewish faith.

Crest

The open book symbolizes action arising from recorded law. The sword alludes to Curtana, the Sword of Mercy. Together, they symbolize that Mr. Minc, mindful of social justice, served as a judge in Montréal’s courts, dispensing mercy within the law.

Motto

This Latin phrase meaning “Light and truth” illustrates the goals of Mr. Minc's judicial actions in municipal court.
