Symbolism

Arms

Green represents Ireland, the national origin of Mr. McClinchey's family, and is the colour of the House of Commons, his place of work. The vertical stripe with the round face evokes the Peace Tower of the Parliament Buildings with its clock. The owl is a reference to Parliament, a congregation of owls being called a “parliament” for their presumed wisdom. The quill pens represent Mr. McClinchey’s work in writing legislative documents.

Crest

As an aquatic creature, the river otter represents Mr. McClinchey’s role as the legislative liaison for the Great Lakes Fishery Commission. The violin signifies that music has been an important feature of family gatherings for several generations.

Motto

This phrase alludes to the importance of creating texts in a correct manner for effective results.
