Symbolism

Arms

The red lions on white are associated with arms traditionally used by people named Kearney, O’Kearney, Carney, etc. The gold trident heads are a reference to Mr. McCarney’s business, the Gananoque Boat Line.

Crest

The gauntleted hand is found with traditional Kearney arms, while the trident repeats the reference to Mr. McCarney’s business.

Motto

Meaning “Sustain and abstain”, this Latin phrase is the traditional motto of the Kearneys of County Limerick.

Flag

The blue colour and the coiled rope refer to Mr. McCarney’s business, and the lion’s head is taken from the lions in the arms.
