Symbolism
Arms
The “T” shape symbolizes a steel T-beam, representing Mr. Thomas’s career as an engineer, as well as alluding to the initial of his surname. Each of the three pairs of inverted V-shapes alludes to the girders that help to reinforce T-beams. Blue and maroon are the colours of Mr. Thomas’s high school and university respectively. The combination of blue and gold is used by the 758 Argus Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, where Mr. Thomas volunteers.
Crest
The doctor bird is the national bird of Jamaica, Mr. Thomas’s country of birth, as well as one of the emblems of the University of Technology, Jamaica, where he completed his studies. The books represent his children, as well as the three schools that he attended with his wife. More generally, they symbolize the central role of learning in one’s life.

This Latin phrase means “Information is power.” This highlights Mr. Thomas’s fundamental belief that a more informed person will always make better decisions and will also be able to use this information in an advantageous way.
