The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The lion may allude to that in the crest of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, where Mr. Hull was born. The maple branches refer to Canada, his country of adoption.
