The Arms of Joseph Albert Guy Rosaire Lavigne (Chevronny Ermine and Azure per pale counterchanged, a chief Or) debruised of a five-point label Gules;

Crest

A demi-stag Argent attired, unguled and gorged with a collar, a chain affixed thereto passing between the forelegs and reflexed over the back, all issuant from a coronet erablé Or;

Motto

AEDIFICAVI SUPRA PETRAM;

A birch sprig proper fructed Or;


Symbolism

Arms

Ermine represents Brittany, the region in France from which Mr. Allen-Petrie’s maternal ancestors came. The chevronny pattern refers to the fact that his grandfather was a builder and that his first maternal ancestor who immigrated to New France was a mason. Blue refers to New France and the French language.

Crest

The stag recalls the fawn that Mr. Allen-Petrie’s grandfather, as a child, rescued and raised on the family farm.

Motto

Meaning “I built upon a rock,” this Latin phrase is based on the parable of the two builders (Matt. 7:24) and refers to Mr. Allen-Petrie’s grandfather’s profession as a builder.

Badge

The birch sprig recalls the family property, Birch House, in Gracefield, Quebec.
